Abstract

1,007,802. Tubular heat exchangers. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. July 17, 1964 [Aug. 2, 1963], No. 30697/63. Heading F4S. In a shell and tube heat exchanger, e.g. a boiler feed-water heater for steam turbine plant, the tubes 2 are joined at their ends to a header member 3 in which ducts 7 are formed extending transversely with respect to the tube ends, each duct communicating with at least one tube- As shown, communication is by drilled holes 9 closed at their external ends by plugs 10. The ducts ,7 preferably empty into cross ducts 8 formed within (as shown) or externally of the member 3 to carry feed-water to or from the tubes. The header member 3 may be a flatsided plate of circular or polygonal form or a sphere having a flat surface formed thereon to which the tubes are joined. The holes 7 need not be circular.
