811,665. Tubular heat exchangers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd., and CAVE-BROWNE-CAVE, R. T. July 1, 1957 [July 9, 1956], No. 21204/56. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises a cylindrical vessel 1 in which is disposed one or more helically wound tubes 7 having external radially extending fins thereon and baffle means-such as a cylindrical sleeve 3 located centrally of the tube helix or helices, the arrangement being such that substantially all of a fluid flowing through the vessel 1 passes over the tube fins. In the form shown, oil is heated by steam flowing through the tube or tubes 7, an outlet 9 for steam condensate being provided. Steam may be admitted to the vessel 1 for cleansing purposes.
