Abstract
919,514. Heating steam boilers by hot gases; superheaters; tubular heat - exchangers. SULZER FRERES S.A. Dec. 18, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 45305/61. Classes 64 (3), 123 (2) and 123 (3). A heat-exchanger which may be used as a vapour generator comprises groups of identical numbers of helically wound tubes all of'the same pitch but disposed at varying radii around a common central axis. Tubes of longer tube length are connected in series with tubes of shorter tube length in a different group so that the working medium flows through a number of paths of equal total tube length connected in parallel. The heating medium which may be the coolant gas from a nuclear reactor flows outside the tubes in a direction parallel to said axis. In the embodiment shown the working medium enters the four tube coils of tube groups 10, 9 and 8 through inlet headers 11. These coils are connected by pipes 13, 14 and 15 to coils in groups 5, 6 and 7, respectively, the working medium being discharged through outlet headers 12. A guide element 16 serves to ensure uniform axial flow of the heating medium over the tubes. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the tubes in each group form coils of differing radii and the groups are placed successively to one another in the axial direction.
