Abstract
Refinements in air-cooled heat exchangers for condensing vapors, having a main condensing section comprising a first outer plurality of U-shaped pipes with inlet sections connected to a steam inlet branch and outlet sections connected to a first condensate nozzle, a first inner plurality of U-tubes connected at one end to a steam inlet nozzle and at the other end to a second condensate nozzle, and means for directing air to flow over the external surfaces of the tubes, characterized in that the exchanger is provided with a post-condensing section composed of a third and a fourth condensate branch, a second outer plurality of U-shaped pipes connected at one end to the second condensate branch and on the other end to the third condensate nozzle, a second inner plurality of U-shaped tubes having in inlet sections connected to the first condensate branch and outlet sections connected to the fourth branch, the second inner plurality of U-shaped tubes being located within the space included in the second outer plurality of U-shaped tubes, means for drain condensate from the third and fourth condensate nozzles, means for removing uncondensed steam from the second outer and inner plurality of U-shaped tubes, the tubes being arranged so that the same air stream passes over the surfaces ends of the tubes of the first and second inner and outer pluralities.
