Abstract

840,356. Railway vehicle underframes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE CO. Ltd. Aug. 29, 1958 [Sept. 27, 1957], No. 30323/57. Class 103(6). A railway vehicle bogie comprises a bolster 5 connected by swing links 8 to the bogie frame 7, and a beam 2 supported on the bolster by springs 6 and carrying the vehicle superstructure 1 through side bearers 3 thereof and a pivot pin 11 thereon engaging a bearing pin 12 in the beam, the latter transmitting tractive and braking effort between the bogie and superstructure independently of the bolster through the agency of pairs of links 10 connecting the beam 2 and the frame 7 and also by the pivot pin 11. The side bearers 3 engage the beam in oil baths 4 thereon. The beam is constrained to move vertically only relative to the bolster by guide means 9 within the springs 6, and is prevented from rotation relative to the frame by the links 10 which however permit transverse movement of the beam. The superstructure is free to pivot relative to the beam 2 against damping due to the friction of the side bearers thereon. Transverse movement of the superstructure is restrained by bell crank lever and spring devices 13, between the frame 7 and beam 2.
