Abstract
1,126,708. Railway vehicle undercarriages. GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 24 Aug., 1966, No. 38054/66. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle bogie particularly for a motor driven railway car, -comprises separate side frames 11, Fig. 1, the end portion 9 of which mount journal boxes for wheel axles 3, 5 and an H-shaped transverse frame 19, the sides 21 of which are supported on flat horizontal rubber pad devices 17 spaced apart longitudinally of and carried on depressed horizontal intermediate portions of the side frames 11, the end portions 25 of the sides.21 having vertical walls slidably engaging in recesses 27 formed by vertical walls 29, 31 and 33 (not shown) upstanding on the side frames 11, whereby horizontal relative movements between the frame members is prevented, longitudinal tilting of the side frames 11 is permitted but transverse tilting of the frames 11 relative to the frame 19 is opposed. The pads 17 are formed of rubber and metal interleaves. The frame 19 has a central bearing for a depending pivot 39 on a transverse bolster 41, the ends of which are recessed at 43 to receive coil springs 45 and fluid springs 47 for supporting a railway vehicle body. The latter has depending brackets 55 pivotally connected at 53 to anchor links 51 pivotally connected at 49 to the bolster ends. The side frames 11 carry, through the agency of the walls 31, brake units B, and one side frame also mounts a third rail shoe mounting structure S. In a modified bogie each side frame carries three elastomeric pad devices, two being outboard whilst the third is inboard and centrally between the outboard devices.
