Abstract

486,270. Vehicle body suspensions. VOIGT, C. A. Aug. 12, 1937, No. 22183. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1936. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (ii)] In a rail or other vehicle a transverse bolster 8, in relation to which a bogie or se.t of wheels is pivoted, is interposed between the bogie &c. and the vehicle body, and is separated from the latter by means of rubber cushions which support the weight of the body and resist oscillatory or rotary movements, some of the cushions in any particular displacement being subjected to compressional and others to shear or torsional stresses. In the construction shown, the bogie frame 1 pivots in relation to the bolster about a pin 7, while the bolster is associated with rubber cushions 9, 12 for taking the vertical load and absorbing vertical oscillations, cushions 11 for damping lateral oscillations, and cushions 10 for damping longitudinal oscillations. The load is transmitted to the bogie frame and axle through cradle springs 6 and axle-box springs 5.
