Abstract
1,200,054. Arrangement and disposition of brakes. GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO. Ltd. 20 Nov., 1967 [19 Nov., 1966], No. 61895/66. Heading B7L. [Also in Division F2] A railway bogie has a brake gear mounting for each wheel comprising a torque reaction member in the form of a horizontal link 9, Fig. 2, pivoted at 28, to a conventional bolster 7, and at 29 to a fulcrum structure 30, in the form of a vertical link mounted on an axle 3 by means of a journal (roller) bearing 31. The invention is characterized in that the brake gear 8 is mounted directly on the reaction member 9. The bearing 31 is mounted in an eye 32 of the link 30. As shown two links 9 suspend a brake gear beam 10. The latter carries an air brake cylinder 11 for each wheel 5, 6. The cylinder 11 is connected by a rod 11a, a bell crank 20 pivoted at 23 to the beam 10 and a link 19 to caliper arms 12, 13 for brake pads 14 engageable with the side faces of the wheel 5 or 6. The arms 12, 13 are interconnected by upper and lower plates 15, 16 and the arm 13 is pivoted to the beam 10 at 17. The arms 12, 13 are also connected by hangers 24 to the link 9. In other embodiments the fulcrum structure is formed by an axle casing or driving motor or gear-box casing as described with reference to Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown).
