[Class 103 (vi)] In a single or multi-axle radial bogie for railway vehicles having spring-controlled contralizing means, the latter are disposed substantially directly above the axle, while the effort of the springs is adapted to become operative on a very slight deviation of the bogie from the normal position and to remain substantially constant up to the maximum deviation. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the frame c of a Bissel bogie carrying a single axle a is pivoted at d to the vehicle underframe and is provided with a pair of spring-controlled arms h, which are pivoted at h<1> to a transverse beam g and fitted at their ends with rollers i bearing against inclined surfaces k on a wedge member k<1> secured to the underframe. The controlling springs m are inserted in a state of initial compression and thus become immediately operative on a small deviation, while owing to the movement of the rollers i on the surfaces k the effective leverage of the springs remains practically constant on further deviation. In a modification, Fig. 2, the wedge member k<1>, instead of being secured to the underframe, is mounted upon but slidable laterally relatively to the axle casing g<3>, being held in the central line of the vehicle by a vertical pin o on the underframe entering a corresponding recess in a block p on the wedge member.
