Abstract
601,832. Railway trucks; changing gauge of wheels. BUCKEYE STEEL CASTINGS CO. Oct. 4, 1945, No. 25889. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1944. [Class 103 (vi)] In a railway truck comprising side frames shown in plan at 1 spaced by a bolster 7 engaging a bolster saddle 9 sliding in guides 4 on side frames, the spacing of the side frames may be altered to accommodate a different track gauge by reversing the bolster saddle 9, The bolster saddle 9 engages the guides 4 by means of vertical surfaces 17 and lugs 15, 16 while the bolster 7 engages the web 10 of the saddle 9 by a recess in its underside and also by lugs 18. The saddle and bolster are supported from the side frame by the usual springs 20 which when removed permit the saddle 9 to be slid downwardly to a position below the guides 14 and then removed. The lugs 15 at one side of the saddle are thicker transversely of the truck than the opposite lugs 16, so that when the saddle is reversed the spacing between the side frames 1 is altered. The surfaces 14 of the guides 4 and 17 of the saddle 9 may be cylindrical to permit a limited, angling of the truck relatively to the underframe.
