755,208. Mounting bodies on railway vehicles. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTING CO. Dec. 14, 1954 [Dec. 14, 1953; Aug. 27, 1954], No. 36141/54. Class 103 (6). A spring package unit particularly adapted for use in railway car trucks comprises spaced cap and seat members 10, 12 between which are positioned inner and outer springs 14, 16, and friction wedges 52 pressed against wear plates 42 by springs 54, 56 which project out through openings 62 in the cap member 10 except when pressed downwardly by the underside of the bolster 80. The unit is supported on a side frame 70 which is formed with a bolster-receiving opening 78 wider at the bottom than at the top. In applying the spring unit to a railway car truck the bolster is passed partly through the widened portion of the spring 78 in each side frame and is then raised up towards the top of the opening after which the unit is placed in position between the bottom of the bolster and the bottom of the opening 78. A spring plank 86 may be interposed between the unit and the seat portion 82 of the side frame. Guide lugs 84 on the bolster 80 overlap the edges of the opening 78 above the widened portion.
