Abstract

839,235. Linkwork. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Sept. 13, 1957 [Sept. 14, 1956], No. 33200/58. Divided out of 839,231. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group VII] A looper-carrying bar 26 in a chain-stitch sewing-machine is connected by a universal joint 34 to one end of a link 35, the other end of which is connected by a universal joint 44 to a crank-pin 45, and the latter is arranged on an axis skewed with respect to the axis of a shaft 54 carrying the crank-pin, whereby, on rotation of shaft 54, both reciprocatory and oscillatory movement is imparted to bar 26. Shaft 54 is disposed above the level of bar 26 to provide relatively rapid axial motion of the latter in one direction. The Clank-pin is mounted on a plate 60 slidable in a groove 61 in a crank-plate 58. Plate 60 is held in adjusted position longitudinally, for varying the crank throw, by screws 62. A screw 64, passing through plate 60 and abutting'plate 58, serves to adjust the inclination of the crank-pin for varying the extent of oscillation of bar 26.
