[Class 112] In the sewing-machine described in Specification 565,581, a vibratory needle-bar frame 30 is supported on a fulcrum-rod 31 (see Figs. 1 and 2 of Specification 565,581), the axis of which is substantially collinear with the centre of the combined mass. of the frame and bar when the latter is at the bottom portion of its workpenetrating stroke, or when feeding of the work is taking place, for balancing purposes to reduce vibration. The machine is provided with a head 4 designed so that it may be machined and the mechanism assembled within the head separately from the remainder of the frame, and when completed, attached as a unit to the free end of the arm 3 by screws 64 and a locating pin 65. A needle-bar actuating crank 9 is provided with a crank-pin 16 having two needle bearings 17 in the upper end of a tubular link 18 held on the pin 16 by a washer 19 and screw 20. The needle-bar 23 coacts with loopers 15 to produce chain-stitches and is supported in bearings 26, 27 in the C-shaped frame 30 which oscillates on the fulcrum pin 31. The head carries a ball-bearing 5 and a bearing sleeve 32. Driving connection between the crank 9 and the shaft 7 may be in the form of splines, or other means may be used.
