Abstract

1,069,157. Sewing machines. A. DE. KONINCK. Aug. 12, 1964 [Jan. 31, 1964], No. 32826/64. Heading D1G. An overedge sewing machine comprises two loopers and a straight needle mounted in an offset manner on a needle bar slidable in a bush supported by the sewing machine casing at a location beneath the work-supporting surface. Stitch-forming, frames, work-holding, lubrication. A straight needle 1 is carried by a bracket 1' projecting radially from a needle bar 13 adapted to reciprocate in a bushing 14' mounted in an oil-tight casing 70. The presser foot (71) Fig. 2, is carried by an arm pivoted to a structure (81), Fig. 2, of thin cross -section at the front face of casing 70. The arrangement is thereby such that the upper surface of casing 70 is substantially free. A pin 9, fixed to the needle bar, is slidable in a groove 22' in the casing, and is connected by a link 12 to a pin 8 on one arm of a lever 11 rigid with a fulcrum pin 7, the other arm of lever 11 being coupled by a pitman to a crank on a main driven shaft 4. The lower end threaded looper 2 is carried by a bar 22 slidable in a pivoted member 23. Bar 22 is connected to one arm 21 of a lever pivoted at 20, the other arm 19 being coupled by a pitman 16 to a crank on shaft 4. The overedge unthreaded looper 3 is fixed to one arm 35 of a lever pivoted at 36, the other arm 34 being connected by a link 32 to one arm 31 of a lever pivoted at 20, the other arm 29 being coupled by a pitman 26' to a crank on shaft 4. A pull-off device for the lower thread comprises an arm (78), Fig. 6, fixed externally of the casing on the oscillating fulcrum 7 of lever 11 and movable between a pair of walls (75), (76). The thread passing through aligned holes in said arms is engaged by arm (78). Feeding A feed dog 41 is carried by a feed bar 50 which passes slidably through a member 53 pivoted in a vertically-slidable housing 54. Bar 50 also passes slidably through a pitman 43 actuated by an eccentric 40 on shaft 4 for imparting feed lift movement. A member 52, rigid with bar 50, is pivoted to a crank 44 on a shaft 45. The latter is oscillated, to impart feed advance movement, by a crank 71' thereon coupled by a pitman 70' to an eccentric on shaft 4. Cutting. The work is trimmed by a vertically-reciprocating blade 42 co-operating with a blade (42'), Fig. 5, fixed to structure (81). Blade 42 is carried by a bar 61 slidable in a' bush 61'. A block 59 pivoted on bar 61 is embraced by the forked end 58 of one arm of a lever 56 pivoted on pin 7. The other arm of lever 56 is pivoted to pitman 43.
