Abstract

545,432. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 22, 1940. No. 16809. [Class 112] Feed by needle. The laterally vibrating frame carrying the needle-bar is mounted at its upper end on a pivot which is given lateral movements so as to maintain the needle-bar substantially normal to the work. As applied to the machine described in Specification537,161 the frame 18, which carries the needlebar 14, the upper feed foot 33 and the presser-bar 30, is pivoted upon a pin 20 of a crank 21 mounted in abearing 23 and oscillated by an eccentric 29 and pitman 28. The eccentric 29 may be of variable throw so that it can be adjusted in accordance with the stitch length.
