Sewing-machines; frames. - The frame or a machine specially suitable for sewing hats comprises a standard 1 a downwardly-curved bracket arm 3 having no upward projections on its outer end and an upwardly-inclined work arm 7. A vertical shaft 13 is driven through bevel gearing from the shaft of the pulley 19 and actuates the looper shaft 34. Needles, driving. - The needle-bar is actuated by mechanism comprising a link 21, a bell-crank lever 24, and a pitman 25 ball-jointed to the lever 24 and to a crank pin 14. The shaft 34 carries a rotary chain-stitch looper. Presser-bars.-The presser-foot is carried by a bar on which bears a leaf-spring 27 tensioned by a screw 30. Feed by dogs.-The feed-bar comprised three rigidly connected parts 37, 39, 38 the part 37 being hung on a ball joint at 40 and guided at its lower end in a slot 41. Rising and falling movements are imparted to the member 38 carrying the feed-dog 43 by an eccentric 44 on the looper shaft connected by a link 45 to a ball 46 on the member 38. Feed movements are imparted by an eccentric 47 embraced by a forked arm 48 of a bell-crank lever the other arm 50 of which is connected bv a link 51 to a ball on the member 38. A roller 53 on the feed-dog carrier engages a slot, curved in a plane about the ball 40 as centre, to guide the movements of the feeddog. Specifications 149,838 and 185,070 are referred to.
