Abstract

537,161. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 12, 1940, No. 6637. Convention date, April 15, 1939. [Class 112] A double-loop stitch looper 140 oscillating in the plane of the work feed and a laterally moving loop-spreader 160 co-operate with an under feed dog 127 and an upper feed provided by a laterally-vibrating needle-bar 64 and a feed foot 80. These parts are described in the abridgment of Specifications 536,792 and 539,249, The needle-thread control comprises a thread-tension 202, which is released when the presser is raised, a thread nipper 204 of which the discs 210 are separated by a cam on the top shaft, a take-up arm 205 fixed to the top of the needle bar, a thread pull-off 231 and a thread-controller 206. The eye 232 of the pull-off is, normally stationary but its position can be adjusted and secured by a screw 233. The thread controller comprises a U-shaped part 226, having a thread eye in each arm and secured upon an arm 223 fixed upon the needle-bar, and an arm 228 fixed upon the pitman 68 which drives the needle-bar. With the relative movement of the parts 226, 228, a shoulder 230' on the arm 228 effects secondary take-up actions.
