477,104. Sewing-machines. BREGMAN, B. Sept. 9, 1936, No. 24550. [Class 112] The sewing-machine is designed for felling by interlocking a chain stitch with a second cotton so as to produce a cross - stitch - lockstitch. The spreader 3 is operated by the looper motion. A curved needle 1 is pushed through the material and withdrawn so as to leave a loop of cotton which is pierced by a threaded looper 2, and carried over to the point of entrance of the needle in the cloth where the looper cotton is then pierced by the needle, the spreader 3 passing downwards to catch the looper cotton. The needle is oscillated by a rock-shaft 5 which is actuated by an arm 6 connected to the main shaft 9. A rod 10 carries the looper 2, the rod being connected by a universal joint 11 to an inclined pin 12 on an eccentric 13. 'A ball joint 14 connects the rod 10 to an arm 15 pivoted by a boss 16 on a pin 17 fixed to the machine frame 18. The looper has a lateral semicircular motion in addition to the reciprocating movement imparted by the eccentric 13. The spreader 3 is formed on a lever 19 pivoted on a stud 20 fixed to the frame 18 and is given an up-and-down motion by means of a pin 21 carried by a crank disc 22 fixed to a pivotal bearing boss 16 of the arm 15. The crank pin 21 is engaged in a cam slot 23 formed in the lever 19. The stud 20 may be eccentrically carried by a member 24 to be rotationally adjustable. The disc 22 may also be adjustable.
