[Also in Group XXV] Machines with work-benders.-Blind-stitching and piquÚ apparatus for embodiment in a sewing-machine or for addition as an accessory, comprising a needle passing through a thread-loop formed by a looper and through the work which is temporarily lifted by a work-bender, has a stationary loop-catcher adjacent the needle path to receive the loop and position it with one limb above the needle path and one below. In the embodiment shown, a curved needle 7 is secured in a sector 16 which is pivoted to a block 17 (see Group XXV) clamped on the presser-bar 3 and is oscillated by a link from a lateral arm fixed to the needle-bar. The presser-foot 4 has a transverse needle-groove, an aperture 8 communicating with recesses 9, 11, and a slightly-undercut part 12, constituting the loop-catcher, to receive the thread-loop on the looper 33. The looper is mounted in an arm 31 clamped on an inclined spindle 28 carried in bearings on the presser-foot and oscillated by an arcuate rack 35 on the sector 16 engaging a pinion 27 on the upper end of the spindle 28; the looper descends at the beginning of the stroke and then ascends, and its path lies wholly over the presser-foot so that it cannot catch in the work. The workbender 42 is carried by a lever pivoted beneath the throat-plate and oscillated by a cam on one of the feed rock-shafts; it may be adjustable in known manner.
