565,641. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). April 13, 1943, No. 15892/44. Divided out of 565,581. [Class 112] The machine, which is described in Specification 565,581, is equipped with two needle-bars 67, 68, coupled together by telescopic parts 75, 76, 77 and mounted to reciprocate in a frame 69. The frame is carried on fulcrum pins 31, 70 and is oscillated by an arm 34 which is actuated by an eccentric 41 on the main shaft 7. The axis of the pins 31, 70 is substantially collinear with the centre of mass of the needlebar-frame and the needle-bars when the latter are at the lowest ends of their strokes. The connection 75 ... 77 allows lost motion between - the needle-bars and compensates for any slight errors in parallelism. An actuating crank 9 on the shaft 7 drives the needle-bars by a link 18. The eccentric 41 is adjustable as described in Specifications 446,477 and 491,083. Two presser bars 80, 79 have separate springs 81, 82, controlled by adjusting screws 85, 84. To prevent the bars from turning, collars 87 have guide arms 89 attached, the free ends of which extend into guide slots 91 in the head 4 and overlie the ends of a limb 92 of a member 93 which is connected to a treadle or knee-shift mechanism. A hand-controlled presser-foot lifting lever 94 has a cam section which may engage the member 93. A spring 97 holds the member 93 down. An adjustable stop is provided.
