Abstract

893,027. Sewing-machines. DURKOPPWERKE A.G. June 22, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 21259/59. Class 112 The looper drive of a chain stitch sewing machine comprises a sleeve 14 mounted on roller bearings on an oblique crank 12, the sleeve having trunnions 17, 18 which enter respectively into bores in a gimbal frame 19 surrounding the sleeve. The gimbal frame 19 has a short journal 20 at one side engaging a bush 23 in the casing 1 and a long journal 22 projecting through a bearing 25 in the casing, a looper carrier 21 being mounted at the end of the journal 22. As the drive shaft 3 rotates the crank 12 the journals 20, 22 oscillate and slide to give an elliptical motion to the looper 39 mounted on the carrier 21. To permit adjustment to the looper position and path the bush 2 through which the shaft 3 extends is adjustably clamped in both an extension 7 of the bedplate and in the casing 1. In another embodiment, (see Fig. 8), the sleeve is in the form of a cylindrical sleeve 42 slidably mounted and axially guided in a cylindrical member 44, the looper carrier 21 being mounted on a long journal 46 on the link. Lubricating reservoirs &c. The casing 1 is rendered oil tight by packing 26, 29, 31 and 38 and an oil level inspection glass 35 is provided. A filling screw 36 and a drain screw 37 are also provided.
