Abstract

1283361 Sewing machines S FUKUTOMI and M KOSEKI 27 July 1969 [27 July 1968] 12439/69 Heading D1G An overedge sewing machine comprises a needle 5 co-operating with a single looper 6 which is driven from an auxiliary shaft of the machine by a crank 21 which is pivotally connected to the looper at 26, amid point of the looper being pivotally supported by a member 29 the result of the oscillating movement of the auxiliary shaft being that the looper moves above and below the needle plate. The needle 5 is inclined towards the operator so that movement of the looper in a vertical plane causes relative movement from side to side of the needle. As shown the looper has an eye to carry its own thread but a looper can be provided without its own thread which only takes the needle thread. A conventional eyed looper 7 is also provided to produce a double loop seam adjacent the overedge seam by co-operating with a second needle 5 (Fig. 1). The looper 7 is oscillated from the auxiliary shaft and given a needle avoiding motion from an eccentric on the main shaft which causes endwise movement of the shaft 37.
