Abstract

725,777. Sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 27, 1953, No. 23669/53. Class 112. A feed-advancing lever which extends through a slot 21 in a sewing-machine frame and is pivoted at 19 on the frame about an axis normal to the opposed and parallel side walls of the slot, is frictionally maintained in adjusted position relatively to the slot by means of a U-shaped member 31 having a base 33 provided with an aperture through which the lever extends, and two opposed legs 34 which extend from the base and are arranged substantially parallel to the axis of said aperture for bearing resiliently against the opposed walls of the slot. The lever, which regulates a feed-advance mechanism of the kind described in Specifications 415,987 and 415,988, is mounted in the column 2 of the machine and is connected by a link 17 to a link 9. The latter, which is adapted to rock a feed-advance shaft 7, has a sliding connection with a rod 11 carried by a bracket 13 pivoted at 14 and rocked by means of an eccentric 16 carried by a rotary shaft 3. The front portion of the lever is in the form of a hand piece 20 having a cylindrical shank embraced by a sleeve-like portion 32 extending from the base 33, and a reduced end-portion 28 extending into a longitudinal bore in the main portion of the lever and hold releasably therein by a set screw 26. The latter, together with a set screw 27, also secures upon the lever a block 25 having a V-shaped notch 29 which co-operates with a screw 30, threaded into the column, to limit the movement of the lever.
