Abstract
460,443. Sewing - machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO. July 27, 1935, No. 21343. Convention date, Jan. 15. [Class 112] A sewing-machine with a four-motion feed dog mechanism as described in Specification 413,120 has manual means for readily varying the stitch direction and stitch length. The variable setting means 36, 34 for the stitch length is as described in Specification 413,120. The stitch length and direction is varied by turning the crank handle 45. This rotates the shaft 42 to cause arms 41, 40, 38 to rock the shaft 37 and so alter the feed rocking motion of the feed bar 10 on the feed rock shaft 23. The shaft 42 is carried through the casing 3 and has a pointed member 46 fixed thereto. This member co-operates with a flat spring 48 and adjustable screw stops 53, 54. As the pointed member is moved between the stops, it varies the feed and length of stitch. As the pointer snaps across the flat spring to the extreme position or the other, it varies the direction of feed.
