Abstract

837,244. Ventilation. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 20, 1958 [Feb. 27, 1957], No. 5614/58. Class 137 A room air conditioning unit comprises a plenum chamber mounted in a casing divided into an air intake chamber and an air discharge chamber, nozzles discharging air from the plenum, a heat exchanger in the casing located in the path of secondary air induced into the intake chamber, a first opening in the casing through which secondary air is induced into the intake chamber over the heat exchanger, and a movable member forming part of the casing for selectively providing a second opening for the induction of secondary air over the heat exchanger. As shown, a casing 10 carries a plenum chamber 11 outlet from which is controlled by a plate 13 and which discharges conditioned air from nozzles 16. A heat exchanger 30 is mounted in the casing and secondary air may be induced over it through an opening in the front of the casing and a chamber 40, the amount of secondary air being controlled by an adjustable flap 52. A removable cover 20 is fitted to the rear of the casing over a second opening through which, on removal of the covering, secondary air may be induced. A filter 41 may be fitted in front of the heat exchanger and a drip-tray 19 may be provided. The amount of primary air escaping from the plenum may be. adjusted by means of a screw 59 and a lever 61. Guttering 51 outside the casing may be provided to collect any condensate forming on the ends of the heat exchanger coil, the condensate being conveyed to the drip-tray 19. The heat exchanger may be turned end-over-end or from side to side to allow supply and exhaust to be made from any one of four points. Specifications 641,712. 809,903 and 809,904 are referred to.
