Class 137 A kitchen air-conditioner comprises a hood having a flat top wall 2 (Fig. 3) downwardly extending end walls 4 and front wall 5, part of the hood or other means forming a housing 30 (Fig. 2) for the air conditioning means. The housing has an air inlet in the form of a filter 54 for removing suspended grease particles from inflowing air which is drawn in by fans 64 mounted on the ends of axles 63 of electric motor 60. Outflowing air passes through removable pervious units 70 containing absorbent material 78 for deodorising the air, and through outlets at each side of the hood to the kitchen. The front edge of the downwardly sloping portion 5 has an upwardly opening channel formed by rear and front walls 7 and 9 and end walls 11. In a modification (Figs. 9 and 10) the air passing through the filter is then divided into three streams one passing through a central deodorising unit 177 and around the motor 161 to two cage-type blowers 164, the other two streams passing one through each of two cylindrical deodorising units 178 clipped in place against further inlet openings to the cage-type blowers. The cleaned and deodorised air passes along a duct formed between plate 168 and the top-wall 2 and through louvres in front wall 107 to the upwardly opening channel which deflects it upwardly into the kitchen. In a further modification (Fig. 11, not shown) a part or all of the cleaned and deodorised air may pass through a duct leading outside the kitchen the proportion of air so deflected being controlled by dampers in the two ducts. The air passing through the duct leading to the kitchen is deflected upwardly through louvres in the sloping wall 5 of the hood. The conditioner may be mounted above a kitchen stove and below a kitchen cabinet 20 (Figs. 3 and 10).
