[Class 137] [Also in Group XIII] A heating and ventilating system for buildings comprises a main air passage 20 surrounding a metal flue 16 of a stove 15, preferably of the open register grate type, on each side of the passage 20 there being an auxiliary duct 21 and 22 respectively. The former opens into the passage 20 at the bottom in the well 9 below the grate, to supply fresh air from the attic 17 to be warmed and delivered to the rooms via the louvred openings 24 in the duct 20, the latter, which is not in communication with the duct 20, enables foul air to be removed from the rooms via the louvred openings 29 and rejected to atmosphere through the cowling 28. The ducts 20, 21, and 22 are situated in a casing 8, Fig. 1, forming part of a partition wall 3, and comprise three box-like units 9, 10 and 11 joined together by pipes 12, the casing being formed of metal plates 13 attached by flanges on the wall 3. Louvred openings 25 to facilitate the recirculation of air in the rooms are included in the duct 20, which has interior adjustable baffles 33 to control the flow through it.
