Abstract

792,057. Air conditioning apparatus HALL & CO. Ltd., M. June 1, 1956 [June 10, 1955], No. 16837/55. Addition to 769,989. Class 137 An air conditioning unit, for fitting, e.g. into a corner of a room, comprises a panel P which extends from the floor to the ceiling and co-operates with corner walls W, W 1 , to form a chamber C, a discharge nozzle N for primary air under pressure being mounted at the rear of a heat exchanger B to supply an upward flow of primary air which induces secondary room air to enter an opening in the panel, pass over the heat exchanger B and mix with the stream of primary air for discharge to the room space through an opening G at the top of the panel. Instead of providing an inlet opening as shown it may be cut away at the bottom of the panel. In a modification, Fig. 4, the heat exchanger B<SP>2</SP> is arranged behind the middle opening 2 of three openings 1, 2, 3 in a panel P<SP>1</SP>, and a discharge nozzle N<SP>1</SP>, adjacent the heat exchanger B<SP>2</SP>, is capable, by means of a valve, of directing primary air either upwardly, or downwardly, within the duct c. When the louvres of the bottom opening 1 are closed secondary air is induced through the opening 2 and over the battery B<SP>2</SP> for discharge with the primary air, through the upper opening 3. If it is not desired to heat, or cool, the air delivered to the room the louvres of the opening 1 are opened and the battery B<SP>2</SP> is by-passed by the rising air. By suitably positioning the louvres of the openings 1 and 3 and discharging air from the nozzle in a downwards direction air can be delivered to the room at floor level. The heat exchanger connected to hot, or chilled, pipes 4, 5, has a condensate drain 6.
