Abstract

A decorative column is positioned in a room and includes a fan for circulating air through the column. The column may also include filters, a bacteria destroying UV lamp, a drier, a smell additive, a humidifier, a heater and an insect trap. A microprocessor for monitoring and controlling temperature, humidity, fire and intruder alarms, &c., is also provided.

Description

SPECIFICATION Multiple parameter monitor and control column TECHNICAL FlELDThis invention relates to a hollow column through which air is circulated and in the process its parameters are monitored and controlled. The parameters of the adjoining wall are also included.
BACKGROUND There are a number of units where air is passed through a channel or enclosure and is treated in some way. However, the trend is that air is either exhausted (wall fan) or partly recirculated, having been taken outside an enclosure first or is recirculated in a short unit as with personal purifiers.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES According to present inventions, a new concept consisting of a long column (also of classical design) is used to include a number of features which have not been included by any other units mentioned thus far.
First: the air is usually sucked from the top layers of a room and after treatment it is expelled at the bottom. However, flow reversal is possible.
Second: the long column allows for measurement of deviation of parameters of the air and the room walls to be measured, thus increasing the scope of measurement and control.
Third: the acceptable space inside the column allows for electronic monitoring and control of air and wall parameters and their deviations which, with present microprocessor application, will allow for subsequent instantaneous differenciation and integration of those parameters giving the benefits of mathematically processing air/wall parameter functions.
Fourth: the column envelope will accommodate other features such as a germicidal lamp and bug sex-small generator; the latter will cause certain bugs to fall into a trap.
1. It is claimed that a long column, being an acceptalbe architectural feature, will also act as an air duct and a measuring instrument with computing facilities.
2. The column is also an energy saving device as it will recirculate warm, little-used air at elevated regions to floor level where it is needed. Also by creating slight air pressure difference at floor level most external draughts in the civinity will be excluded-eg under-door draughts.
3. Clean and healthy air is provided in areas where required.
4. There is no need to knock holes in walls in order to expel or condition the air outside the room thus making mounting easier and the appearance is improved.
5. The column or columns may be mounted on any wall in any room, but aesthetic and/or air circulation and its direction prerogatives will determine the actual placing of the installation. The unit may also be free standing.
6. The invention enables the air to be 'vacuum cleaned' and in the process, the air is "sniffed" and monitored, the air and room walls parameters measured and acted upon.
