Class 137 An air conditioning unit comprises a housing 10 accommodating in its lower part a wind box 14 connected at one end to a supply 12 of primary air under pressure, and a heat exchanger 32 angularly disposed in relation to a back wall 24 and composed of finned tubular elements 34 connected to a source of coolant, or heating, fluid, the primary air, passing through a slotted distributer baffle 18 in the base of the wind box 14, being guided along a feed duct 20 to issue as a high velocity jet from a nozzle 22 and induce room air into the housing through an inlet 38 and over the heat exchanger 32 to mix with the primary air which is passing upward through a venturi 40 and out of the housing through an outlet 4 Bosses 26 on the back wall 24 space, and control the width of, the nozzle 22. The back wall 24 which can be either vertical, or sloped, or preferably, as shown, curved, works smoothly into the venturi 40, the fore plate 46 of which, to facilitate the entry and removal of the heat exchanger 32, is divided into two sections 48, and 50 which are joined by bolts 52. The lower plate 50, whose length is determined by the height of the heat exchanger, may be provided with a drain trough and outlet pipe, not shown, for passing off collected moisture when the unit is arranged horizontally. The primary air supply is controlled by a non-resonant butterfly valve, not shown, which is located on the air inlet side of the wind box an opening at the opposite side being provided with a cap containing a pressure relief valve. The internal surfaces 21 of the wind box and the air passage 20 is treated with material having thermal insulation and sound attenuating properties.
