Abstract

737,505. Heating air. LUWA AKT.-GES. May 6, 1953 [Feb. 23, 1953], No. 12636/53. Class 64 (3). [Also in Group XL (a)] A device for influencing. the temperature of rooms, comprises a heat-exchanger in the form of a plurality of adjacent ducts, the wall temperature of which is influenced by a heating or cooling medium, each duct having an inlet for primary air, an inlet for secondary air and an air outlet, the hydraulic diameter of the duct not exceeding 60 mm. and its length being at least five times its hydraulic diameter, and the sum of the areas of the primary air inlets being less than one-fifth of the sum of the areas of the duct outlets, the arrangement being such that secondary air is entrained by primary air and, together with the latter, is passed through the ducts and is discharged from the outlets. The duct walls may be hollow as shown in Fig. 3 in which the ducts are formed by a hollow fluid carrying member I forming channels which are closed by dished plates 9, 10 to form the ducts 11, 12, for the mixture of primary and secondary air flowing through the duct, the primary air entering through nozzles 13 disposed at the lower ends of the ducts and inducing in the duct a flow of secondary' air. Alternatively (Fig. 6), a sinuous pipe 16 may extend through the duct walls which are thereby influenced by the temperature of a fluid flowing through the pipe. Ribs may be provided on the duct wall, Fig. 9 (not shown). Fig. 10 shows an arrangement in which an inlet funnel 34 of sound damping material extends for a short distance into the duct. A second funnel 37 is arranged at a short distance below the duct and the nozzle 35 by which primary air enters the duct is disposed in the mouth of the funnel 37. The distance by which the primary air nozzles 13 extend into the ducts may vary in adjacent ducts, Fig. 1 (not shown). This it is stated reduces noise. It is stated also that the heat exchanger functions as a convection heater when the primary air flow is cut off.. Dust may be extracted from the air flowing through the ducts by an electro-filter, Fig. 11 (not shown).
