Abstract
379,430. Ventilating-apparatus. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., 24, Buckingham Gate, London. June 16, 1931, No. 17510. Convention date, June 25, 1930. [Class 137.] A unit ventilating apparatus comprises a main duct 1, a nozzle 2 so disposed within the main duct that air (usually fresh air) ejected from the nozzle induces a flow of additional air into mixture with it, a heat exchanger 4 located within part of the path of the additional air and means for varying the proportions of additional air passing over the heat exchanger and through the byepass. In the form shown in Fig. 1, return air is entrained through inlets B<1>, B3 controlled by louvres 7, 9 so that one inlet is opened as the other is closed. Fresh air may be entrained through inlets B, B<2> so controlled by louvres 6, 8 that they open and close together thus effecting a control of the volume of fresh air admitted, the proportion passing through the heat exchanger being controlled by a damper 13. The air is admitted to the room from an outlet 3 at the upper part of the duct. In modified forms, the additional fresh air inlets are omitted and' the nozzles 2 are arranged below the return air inlets. In the form shown in Fig. 5, fresh air is supplied to a duct 15 and is ejected into the main duct through a nozzle formed by pivoted flaps 16, 17. The proportions of entrained air passing through the heat exchanger and byepass are controlled by a single damper 18. In another modification, Fig. 10, fresh air is entrained through an inlet B5 and return air through an inlet B<6>. The heat exchanger 4 extends across part of the main duct, a partition 26 forming a byepass 27 controlled by a damper 28. In a further modification, Fig. 12, two heat exchangers 4, 41 adapted respectively to heat and cool the entrained air are positioned obliquely across the main duct, a damper 28 hingedly suspended from the top of the lower exchanger serving to control the proportions of entrained air passing through each exchanger. Only one exchanger is in operation at any given time, the other forming a byepass. Air is admitted at the base of the casing through inlets B<5>, B<6> and filters 30 and may be humidified by means of a water tank 31. In a slightly modified form the upper heat exchanger is omitted.
