Air conditioning apparatus for installation in a room comprises a sheet metal casing 1 having near the base thereof a duct 3 which is connected to a supply of compressed fresh air and communicates by way of an opening 7 with a chamber 2 having a row of outlet expansion nozzles 8 for supplying fresh air at reduced pressure and high velocity to a mixing chamber 9, the ejector effect thus produced sucking in air from the room through apertures 10, 11, 12 respectively in the side, and lower walls of the casing and into the chamber 9 where it mixes with the fresh air. Two elements 14a, 14b of a heat exchanger, disposed in the path of the room air sucked in through the side apertures 10, 11, are inclined so that the cross-sectional area of the chamber 9 as defined by fin plate 17 on pipe coils 16 of the heat exchanger elements 14a, 14b, gradually increases in an upward direction. The room air in this manner flows practically uniformly over the whole height of the heat exchanger which therefore contributes effectively to the heating or cooling, of the circulated room air. Felt linings 6 are fitted on the inside of the chamber 2 and also on both sides of the distribution duct 3. The delivery of fresh air to the duct 3 is controllable by a valve, not shown. The top of the sheet metal body 5 of the chamber 2 is in the form of a condensate collecting trough 22. A heat exchanger may be disposed on only one side of the mixing chamber 9, the other side being flanked by a closed wall of the housing.
