489,423. Ventilating rooms and other enclosures; lighting systems. BURGESS LABORATORIES, Inc., C. F. Nov. 11, 1936, No. 30798. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1935. [Classes 20 (iv) and 137] [Also in Group XI] Enclosures such as rooms, halls, or the saloons of vehicles, are ventilated by supplying air through a foraminous partition containing numerous perforations artificially made, so as to give an even flow of air without draught. Conditioned air is supplied from a blower 10 and duct 9 to the space between perforated foraminous panels 7 and the room ceiling, the air issuing into the room and moving downwards in a uniform manner to outlets 12 arranged around the room at floor level and communicating with an exhaust fan 14. Sheet metal strips 2 having apertures 4 to allow passage of the ventilating air, are screwed at 3 to the ceiling and have flanges 5 for supporting the panels 7. Perforated plates 17, Fig. 2, may be arranged below the perforated foraminous panels 16, and neon tubes 18 may be arranged longitudinally of the supports 4 to give a lighting effect through the perforations in the plates 17. In the case of hospitals, medicated air may be introduced as above described, and the foraminous lining eliminates the noise of the entering air the outlet end of the duct 9 being lined with sound-absorbing material. It is possible to blank off certain areas of the ceiling if this is desirable. If the porous material 16 is sound absorbing it may be glued to the normal ceiling the air circulating over the entire ceiling above the perforated plate 17. Specifications 327,186, [Class 20 (iv)], and 489,424 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 described the use of foraminous panels which were not additionally perforated. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
