Abstract
693,142. Ventilation. AIR CONTROL INSTALLATIONS, Ltd., and WRIGHT, F. March 13, 1952 [March 28, 19511, No. 7246/51. Class 137 Air-conditioning apparatus of the, kind in which air is delivered into the space to be ventilated through a permeable textile filter which also distributes the air at a low velocity over the required locality is characterized in that the filter is arranged within an impermeable compartment having one or more outlet openings of such size that the filtered air leaves the openings at higher velocity in the form of a jet or jets. A cylindrical casing 10 having air outlet openings 29 is suspended from the ceiling of a room by hangers 11, houses a fabric filter tube 30, and is connected at one end to a casing 12 which accommodates a heating or cooling unit of known type. The casing 12 is provided with inspection doors 13, 14. A casing 15, containing a fan, (not shown), is connected to the other end of the casing 12 and is joined to a fresh air duct 16. The latter passes through a wall 17, and ends in a downwardly directed hood 18 having an inlet opening covered by a gauze 19. A control 22 operates louvres 20 extending across the duct 16 with louvres 21 across an opening leading into the room, one set of louvres being closed while the others are opened, or vice versa. The filter tube 30, closed at one end, is connected to the heater, or cooler, at the other end, the conditioned air permeating through the filter 30 and passing out of the openings 29 in the casing 10 in the form of jets. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, the casing 10 is of rectangular cross-section, the bottom wall 33 being spaced from the side walls 31 to form longitudinal outlet slots 32. In Fig. 5 the outlet slots 32 are directed downward and in Fig. 6 the casing 10 is formed of two parts, outlet slots being formed intermediate the ends of the side walls. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, a false ceiling 40, having openings 45, is spaced from the proper ceiling 41 by means of side plates 42, a number of filter tubes 30 being supported from the ceiling proper.
