Abstract

1,259,679. Ventilating rooms. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO. Inc. 13 Jan., 1969 [12 Jan., 1968], No. 1974/69. Heading F4V. In a " clean room " in which air borne dust and dirt is to be avoided the air is supplied through a perforated ceiling, or via wall inlets near to the ceiling, and is exhausted through a perforated floor formed of two steel sheets 20, 26 spaced apart by a honeycomb of kraft paperboard having vertical chambers 24. The length of each chamber is at least four times the diameter or longitudinal measurement of each opening 22. There may be two or more layers of chambers 24 separated by perforated plates. The air is circulated by a fan, and a filter and humidifying means as well as means for controlling the temperature are provided. The air collected from beneath the floor is recirculated back through the ceiling. Air entry ducts may be provided in the walls adjacent the ceiling. A similar honeycomb construction can be incorporated in the ceiling. The cross-sectional shape of the honeycomb chambers may be circular or polygonal and the material used may be sheet metal or a plastic.
