Abstract
827,919. Furnace door frames. REINING, H., and REICHE, G. Dec. 5, 1955, No. 34848/55. Class 51 (2). A water-cooled door frame for an open-hearth furnace has a lintel 1 formed with an inwardly-extending portion 3 containing a horizontal duct 6 distributing water supplied through pipes 4 through a slot 8 extending substantially over the full width of the lintel. The pipes 4 extend down the jambs 2 and terminate in nozzles 12, and water and steam are drawn off through a dome 17. The lintel is formed with vertical reinforcing plates 14 welded to the front and back walls. The slot 8, Fig. 3, extends between bafflles 9 secured to the duct 6 and to the wall of the portion 3 by projections 10 leaving a circulating space 11. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the slot is made discontinuous by narrow bridge members, and in another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the duct 6 forms the rear wall of the inwardlyextending portion 3 and is formed with upper and lower slots.
