Abstract

967,974. Open hearth furnace doors. QUIGLEY CO. Inc. Oct. 17, 1962, No. 39342/62. Heading F4B. A water-cooled, open hearth furnace door has a frame 10 comprising peripheral hollow flanges 12 interconnected by vertical water passages 15 and enclosing refractory blocks or panels 17 detachably secured to the back frame wall 11. The latter has slots 16 receiving threaded studs 18 screwed into nuts flush with the outer face of the blocks and engaging clamping nuts 20 with washers 19. The blocks are made of chrome magnesite and have crossed U-shaped metal reinforcements welded to the flush nuts and formed with splayed ends, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the vertical water passages engage a header spaced from the top of the door by the width of one block, the blocks filling said space being attached to brackets on the header.
