Abstract

1,061,269. Fireplaces. CASTLE FIREPLACES (STAFFORDSHIRE) Ltd. Nov. 1, 1965 [Oct. 31, 1964], No. 44501/64. Heading F4W. A fireplace comprises a surround 16 positioned on a hearth 36 and having a rectangular concrete frame 18 secured around the opening therein, the horizontal members 24 of said frame are joined intermediate their ends by a pair of upright members 26 on which is located by means of split pins 38, a fixing bar 32 communicating by means of a bolt 34 with a location bar 10 mounted adjacent the breast 12 of an existing fireplace opening 14. A panel (30) attached to the frame 18 by screws communicating with wooden inserts 28 in said frame 18 closes the opening in the surround 16. The hearth 36 has a central rectangular aperture through which a gas supply pipe may be connected to an appliance (44), and the panel (30) may have an aperture therein to receive a flue extension from the gas appliance. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the fireplace is attached to a wall not possessing a fireplace opening, by means of screws or toggle bolts extending through spaced holes (42) in the upright members (26).
