G a s eous - fuel f u r naces. -In an openhearth or like furnace in which the air port 1, Fig. 1, enters the furnace from below while gas is delivered from above or in an horizontal direction through a port 2, the inner end 4 of the gas port and part of the rear wall 5 of the air port are made removable and with faces inclined to each other and to the vertical so that the joints are maintained gas-tight by the weight of the removable port end. A water-cooled frame is provided on the rear wall 5 and the adjacent part of the gas port the upper vault 6 of which is self-contained and movable, as shown in Fig. 3.
