A water-cooled door frame for an openhearth furnace has a lintel 21 having vertical partitions 25 defining chambers each supplied with water through a pipe 26 branching off a main 24 and terminating in a widened discharge slot 27, a single discharge dome 22 and pipe 23 being provided, and both pipes 23 and 24 being connected to a steam and water collector (not shown). An inwardly-projecting nose-section 82 has a curved baffle-plate 28 extending over its width and leaving a narrow passage 29 through which flows the water from the slots 27. The door posts 20, Fig. 3, each have a supply pipe 24<SP>1</SP> with a wider portion 31 formed with an opening 32 and defining with the walls narrow spaces 33 for the passage of the cooling water. An additional slotted pipe 34 extends from the portion 31 towards an inner curved wall 35. Modified constructions, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), have a curved baffle and an angular baffle, respectively, directing water over the wall 35. In a modification, Fig. 6, the lintel is formed of separate box-shaped compartments 71 supplied with water from a main 73 through pipes 72 and horizontal slotted outlet pipes 74 in the nose-section, outlet pipes 76 leading to a header 77. The compartments may be formed by a metal sheet bent into square corrugations with plates welded across the open sections, Fig. 9 (not shown).
