Abstract

480,653. Hot-water boilers. HOLLESEN, H. F. M. Sept. 16, 1937, No. 25164. [Class 64 (i)] In a central-heating boiler having an outer fuel hopper 5 with an opening 6 leading to a water-jacketed combustion chamber which, by means of an opening above a partition wall 11 communicates with smoke flues 2 running longitudinally between water-filled units, the units 16 are shaped as rectangles from which a corner is removed by an oblique cut, so that the cross-section of the flue is reduced at right-angles to the direction of the smoke. The flues may carry flanges to give the smoke a zigzag path. The units 16 consist of two parallel plates welded along their edges to a. shell which, where the units are to be welded together, is thickened for transfer of heat. The spaces 23 formed by the cutting off of the corners of the units is a triangular prism bounded at the front by the water-filled partition 11, at the rear by the shell 19 of the units, and has an opening at the bottom with a damper 24 for entry of secondary air, which is directed through holes 26 in the wall 11. A water-filled fire arch 9 is spaced above the aperture 6, and the grate 7, which rests on transverse water tubes 8, is spaced below the aperture. Water enters the units at 30 near the smoke outlet 22 and is withdrawn at a pipe 22. The units are connected to the front boiler by pipes 33, 36. A refractory plate 15 is placed above the wall 11. Secondary air enters by openings 37 in the side walls.
