Abstract
766,003. Furnace recuperators. SCHACK, A., [trading as REKUPERATOR KOMM.- GES. DR. ING. SCHACK & CO.]. Aug. 12, 1952 [Aug. 17, 1951], No. 20244/52. Class 64(1) In a double-walled cylindrical recuperator comprising a central hot gas passage 3, an annular passage 18 between the cylindrical walls 1, 2 for the gas to be heated, and a helical baffle 17 in the annular passage, the inlet and outlet ports 16, 19 of the annular passage are respectively of progressively decreasing and increasing widths in the direction of gas flow, to compensate wholly or partly for the change in height of the annular passage above and below the helical baffle at the ends. The walls 1, 2 are supported at the bottom on brackets 12 connected to a frame 14a by bolts engaging in slots to allow radial expansion. The outer wall 2 is formed with a bellows-like compensator 6 to allow for relative expansion between the inner and outer walls. One or more levers 8 pivoted at 9 and provided with counterweights 7 act on brackets 10 connected to the upper ends of the inner cylinder 1. A baffle 4 diverts the hot gases laterally. The passage 3 may contain a heat radiator composed of brickwork or two intersecting metal plates, and is then made of larger diameter than is otherwise necessary.
