Abstract

632,406. Heat treatment furnaces. STEIN & ATKINSON, Ltd., and FOWLER, E. F. July 29, 1947, No. 20449. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group II] A protective cover for a heat treatment furnace intended more particularly for use in annealing coils of strip metal, comprises a sheet metal wall 2 surrounding the coils 1, with a corrugated wall 3 welded to it forming passages 9 for the circulation of atmosphere induced by a fan 13, the troughs of the corrugations open to the atmosphere being sealed by welded plates 5 and 6 which latter are secured to a skirt plate 7 co-operating with a seal 8. Radially disposed baffles 12 direct the circulating atmosphere to the channels 9 which, in a modification, may be formed from separate channel section elements. In a further modification both walls of the cover may be corrugated. A plate 15 may close the upper end of the central space through the coils in which case channelled separators (not shown) between the coils allow of free circulation of the atmosphere.
