Abstract
810,011. Metal-heating furnaces. BRITISH NON-FERROUS METALS RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 12, 1957 [July 31, 1956], No. 23657/56. Class 51 (2). The conventional baffle plates 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, 2, of a furnace for the heat treatment of copper tubes &c. have cover sheets 7, 7<SP>1</SP> attached thereto, which lie along a tube 1 either in the direction of travel or against it in order to restrict the escape of furnace gases and to direct the controlled atmosphere of the furnace into the desired path around and through the metal tube. Fabric curtains 5, 5<SP>1</SP> are also provided or baffle plates with cover sheets may be hinged to the walls of the flue remote from the hot chamber 2. The end of the cover sheet is turned up at 9 to prevent jamming of the entering tubes. Gases which by-pass the flues 4, 41 may be drawn off by exhausts 8, 8<SP>1</SP>.
