Abstract
932,880. Heat treatment of tubing. ELMORE'S METALL-A.G. May 24, 1962 [June 29, 1961], No. 20097/62. Class 72. In a process for bright annealing metal tubing a protective gas is passed through the tube, and on issuing therefrom circulates through the annealing space before being discharged. The rate of heating and of gas flow may be so controlled that residual drawing compound is evaporated and its vapours eliminated from the system before that temperature is reached at which the compound decomposes. A suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 1, the annealing pot 1 being positioned inside furnace 3 equipped with heating elements 2. From cover 4 depend gas supply pipes 8 which serve also to support trays 9 on which are placed coils of tube 10. Pipes 8 are fitted with connectors 11 having as shown a conical external contour over which the tube end is pushed to give a gas-tight connection, but which may alternatively have a conical internal contour into which the tube is pushed.
