Abstract
912,924. Degasifying metals. HERAEUS G.m.b.H., W. C. June 16, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 20626/59. Class 72. A process of degasifying molten metals comprises passing a jet of molten metal into an evacuated chamber, collecting the metal in an inductively heated crucible located in the chamber and continuing the degassing for a period up to five hours. As shown, molten metal from a ladle 1 may be allowed to flow into a portion 3 of an evacuated chamber 4, a funnelshaped guide 6 directing the partially degassed metal into a crucible 7 provided with an induction coil 8. The stirring effect of the induction heating is stated to improve the efficiency of the degassing.
