Class 72 Apparatus for degasifying molten metals in which the melt is taken from a container into a degasification chamber and then returned to the container comprises a degasification chamber the volume of which is less than one fifth of the volume of metal to be treated. As shown, a vacuum degasification chamber 2 is supported above a ladle 1 and the metal passed through the chamber by means of a gas-lift in a pipe 3 and a return pipe 4. In an example 10 cu. in. of metal were degassed in 10-12 minutes in a chamber of 1 cu in. in volume.
