Abstract

840,676. Continuous-casting processes. HOLROYD & CO. Ltd., J. April 8, 1958 [April 10, 1957], No. 11646/57. Class 83 (1). In continuous casting, the casting is withdrawn continuously, but alternately at rapid and slow speed. The withdrawal rolls 18 may be driven from an electric motor 20, whose speed is varied by the automatically timed switching in and out of a resistance 23. A crucible 13 is seated on the graphite mould 10 and heated by burners 15. The mould has a water-jacket 12, and the casting passes through a chamber 16 wherein water is sprayed on to it from jets 17.
