Abstract

840,608. Casting processes. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN A.B. July 16, 1958 [July 17, 1957], No. 22848/58. Class 83 (1). In a vacuum casting process, the chill 1 is provided with a removable non-porous top part 2, e.g. of the same metal as the chill which, after a solidified skin has formed, is replaced by a casing of porous heat-insulating material 5. The porous casing may be in the form of a hood incorporating a heating arrangement, such as an electric heater or fuel burners, or an exothermic material may be supplied to the top of the ingot through a closable hole in the hood.
